ORIGIN AND HISTORY
In 1800 , a boat trip from Newfoundland to British brought Canada working dogs used by fishermen and hunters . British admire their ability to recover , and the second Earl Marlesbury first establish real Labradors kennel . In the late 1800s , powerful dog tax led to a decline in what later became known as the Labrador Retriever in Canada and the UK , the legal import quarantine that effectively cut off will be established . Without new contributions from Canada , the English dog used to develop both Retriever Flat - Coated ( popular in the 19th century ) and what is now known as the Labrador Retriever uniform . Although the rise to popularity came later than Flat - Coat has been very consistent . Currently , there are two types of Labrador Retrievers : field type and the type of event . Field type is considered more energy and thinner than the type of event that is shorter and stocky .
