Before you bring home your new puppy, there are some precautions you should take to help protect you from injury. Puppies are usually very curious and can get into trouble in no time at all, but making small adjustments in the home can help prevent a major disaster. One of the easiest ways to determine what changes you need to do is crawl on all fours to get the look of a dog instead. Especially look for the things that puppies can bite or entangled in, and the small spaces that can pass through.
The following list includes some suggestions of ways to dog-proof the house, but not complete:
Do not allow electrical wires exposed.
Block the stairs with baby gates.
Put some humans, such as chocolate, onions, grapes and macadamia nuts from the reach of your dog food.
Keep all trash cans behind closed doors.
Keep all medicines in a safe place, out of reach of the dog.
Near her porch.
Once you have spent some time with your dog, you will learn their specific tendency (some dogs are chewers, some diggers, etc.) and may make additional changes to your home accordingly.
