ORIGIN AND HISTORY
Large herding dog that needs to control and protect the herd led to the development of a Briard, a French priest who has been with us since the Middle Ages (and possibly more). For centuries, the Briard has received high praise: Briards Charlemagne gave the keys to my friends; Napoleon took them in his campaigns; Thomas Jefferson imported for use in some U.S. farms; Briards and Lafayette has sent his American hacienda. The Briard is very valuable to the French war effort, bringing supplies to the front line, searching for wounded soldiers, carrying ammunition, which was named the official dog of the French army.
PERSONALITY PROFILE
The Briard is a great dog with a great personality: Can be a clown, joker, showrooms, courteous, and until it can be ordered with a stranger, but the loyalty and courage to make it a "philosopher reserved." Natural guardian of home and family. He is a sensitive soul, and cruel or unfair treatment can make Briard scary and even aggressive. However, training and assistance enthusiastic and grateful to make a fair, loving dog.
CARE REQUIREMENTS
Exercise: The Briard needs regular events that include some kind of strenuous exercise. Happiest with work or purpose, become agitated if left to their fate.
Preparation: The multiple layers along the Briard, need to be brushed several times a week to prevent tangling. Roughness layer keeps dirt from adhering to it, and the Briard sheds very little, but without attention, layers can be messy and uncomfortable for him.
Life Span: 10 to 12 years.
Training: A smart dog is willing, the Briard is a quick study. However, the harsh tone or form or hard will backfire and show their stubborn character. He will respond and thrive only with positive training.
